How it works

How Reiki therapy supports you

During a Reiki session, the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above your body while you rest. The focus is on giving your nervous system space to reset — often exactly what a busy, demanding life has not allowed.

01

Warmth, stillness, or release

People often report sensations such as warmth, gentle movement, deep relaxation, or a quiet emotional release. Others feel lighter and calmer by the end of the Reiki therapy session

02

Whatever you feel is right

There is no expected experience. The session is not about achieving a particular state — it is about creating the conditions for your body to settle, in whatever way it needs to.

03

A space held entirely for you

Thirty to sixty minutes of uninterrupted quiet, with full attention on your wellbeing. For many women, this alone — time that belongs only to them — is deeply restorative.

A note on what to expect: You do not need any prior experience of Reiki therapy, any particular belief system, or a specific reason to book. Feeling overwhelmed, depleted, or simply in need of stillness is enough.

Perimenopause support

Reiki and perimenopause - a gentle companion through change

The years surrounding menopause bring a cascade of changes — hormonal, emotional, physical — that can leave the body feeling unpredictable and the mind stretched thin. Reiki therapy does not treat hormonal symptoms directly, but by easing the nervous system and reducing the stress load that amplifies those symptoms, it can meaningfully support how you feel day to day.

Sleep disruption

By calming an overactive nervous system, Reiki can support the conditions for more settled, restorative sleep — often the first thing to suffer during perimenopause.

Mood fluctuations

The emotional volatility that accompanies hormonal shifts can feel destabilising. Regular Reiki offers a consistent, grounding space that many women find steadying.

Anxiety and overwhelm

Heightened anxiety is common in perimenopause. Reiki directly creates moments of genuine calm in a period when they can feel rare.

Fatigue and energy

When sleep is broken and stress is high, fatigue accumulates. The deep rest a Reiki therapy session provides can restore a sense of energy and lightness.

Hot flushes and stress response

Stress can intensify the frequency and severity of hot flushes. Reiki therapy may support a calmer baseline, making flushes feel more manageable.

Grounding during transition

Perimenopause is a significant life transition, not only physical. A regular Reiki therapy practice offers a space to process change and reconnect

Important: Reiki is a complementary therapy and does not replace medical advice, hormonal treatment, or psychological support. If you are experiencing significant perimenopausal symptoms, please speak with your GP or specialist. Reiki can work meaningfully alongside the care you are already receiving.

Managing ongoing stress or anxiety

Professionals in Cambridge workplaces who carry the weight of a demanding role and want a structured way to decompress that goes deeper than a walk or a bath.

Going through significant life change

Those navigating perimenopause, loss, relationship change, or simply a period of uncertainty — who want a calm, non-judgmental space where they are fully held.

Alongside physical treatment

Clients already working with us on a physical issue who recognise that emotional stress is affecting their recovery, sleep, or overall resilience — and want both supported.

The session

What a Reiki therapy session involves

Sessions at Tonosis are gentle, unhurried, and shaped around you. Here is what to expect from your first appointment.

Before we begin

A brief, gentle check-in about how you are feeling — nothing clinical, just an opportunity to share what you would like from the session so the work can be shaped accordingly.

Resting, fully clothed

You lie comfortably on a treatment couch, fully clothed. The practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above your body, moving slowly and without pressure. The room is quiet and warm.

What you may notice

Some clients feel warmth or a gentle tingling; others notice an emotional quietening or release. Many simply drift into a deeply restful state. Whatever happens — or does not happen — is the right experience for you.

Afterwards

At the end of the session there is space to sit quietly, have a glass of water, and share anything you noticed. Your practitioner may offer simple suggestions to extend the benefit in the days that follow.

A space that is entirely yours

No agenda, no performance, no expectation. Every Reiki therapy session at Tonosis is a dedicated hour of care — unhurried, non-judgmental, and focused completely on how you feel and what you need. You are in exactly the right place.

Reiki Therapy in Cambridge FAQ

If your question is not answered here, check our general FAQ page or please send us a message — we reply within one working day and are happy to talk through whether Reiki feels right for you before you book.

You remain fully clothed throughout, resting comfortably on a treatment couch. The practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above your body while you rest quietly for 45–60 minutes. People often report warmth, deep calm, or a quiet emotional release — others simply feel lighter and more settled. Whatever you experience is entirely valid.

Many women going through perimenopause find Reiki helpful for managing sleep disruption, mood fluctuations, anxiety, and fatigue. By supporting nervous system regulation, Reiki can ease the stress response that tends to amplify hormonal symptoms. It complements, rather than replaces, medical care and should be discussed with your GP if you have significant symptoms.

No. You do not need to hold any particular belief or framework. Many clients come from a pragmatic, sceptical background and still find Reiki sessions meaningfully restorative. The focus is on giving your nervous system space to settle — which happens regardless of how you think about it.

No. Reiki is a complementary therapy and does not replace medical advice, medication, or psychological treatment. It works well alongside existing care, easing stress and supporting sleep and emotional balance between appointments with other practitioners.

Many clients notice a meaningful shift after a single session. Deeper and more sustained benefit is typically felt over three to six sessions, after which some clients continue monthly. Your practitioner will discuss what makes sense for you after your first appointment — there is no pressure to commit in advance.
